The motive behind Pivot’s design is derived from the ongoing global development of creating accessible design. With 30% of people in the U.S. living with upper limb loss, and 12.2% struggling with osteoarthritis, a greatly used tool that functions through the motion of firm grasping can become a difficult task. Inspired by the mechanisms used in door openings for accessible public spaces, combined with the pivoting motion used in water dispensers, Pivot allows for easy use through a pushing force, created by linear to rotational movement.
