Melting Point: Winter Station

The Melting Point is athe warming station where observers can come to see the process of freeze and thaw within an architectural form. The design volume is a 4m x 4m x 3m rectangular cube. It interacts with snow, wind and observers. The top elecation of the form is designed to collect snow, and the structural steel frame acts as the axis of symmetry. The form that represents the thaw hangs off the frame on which the snow sits to reflect the process of melting. It is made of translucent white fabric and contains small plastic balls to add rigidity and play to the free flowing fabric as well as increase the weight to empasise the interaction with wind. As the wind hits the form, the balls within the mesh would move around producing sound. The structure’s form can be manipulated by the visitors allowing more interaction.
